Action Groups Update - July 2024
Transport and Active Travel Action Group
We're continuing to develop connections and collect information on bus provision and cycle planning. Sue and Judith are planning to attend the BTC Communities and Local Services cttee on Monday evening 15 July for item on Local Transport Plan. One new member has looked up details of planning for active travel and public transport use for the new hospital. Good plans so we'll be keeping an eye on how they're implemented. Another has been in touch with new community transport officer for NE mayor's office.
Tweed Estuary Pollution Action Group
Estuary water monitoring continues. Have concerns about the feasibility of the beach rubbish survey.
Growing Communities Action Group
At the recent workshop – 1 family and several volunteers – worth doing again next year and get included in the Open Gardens promotional materials.
Civic Society walk with the secretary – write up for Civic Society Newsletter – might also go into the Bridge.
The U3A gardening group are more about seed swapping than gardening together.
Warm Homes Action Group
Continuing with leafletting.
Trial of an Energy Information stall at the June Repair Cafe, to be continued.
Initial discussions with Bernicia re joint working on a feasibility study, funded by the Community Energy Fund, of whether energy efficiency improvements can be carried out to adjoining private properties when Bernicia improve the energy efficiency of their own stock.
Zero Waste Hub Action Group
Repair Café:
Identifying possible venues and presenters for workshops. Salvation Army, Harvest Fields Ramparts; Tim Astley – bike maintenance workshop in Sept – flyers
Looking at card payment system for donations – Nigel will investigate; also, QR code to link for payments. Donation link on GB website?
Tool Library:
Need to develop systems to manage the practicalities – need to discuss with Tania and report back to the August meeting, or invite Tania to attend.
