Action Groups Update - August 2024


Growing Communities Action Group

Obtained some free plants from council (surplus to their requirements) which have been planted to enhance beds near the library and at Foul Ford.

Water supply at the library bed is a problem. Colin could install a water butt on one of the external downpipes if permission could be obtained.


Transport and Active Travel Action Group

Continuing as usual…


Tweed Estuary Pollution Action Group

Monitoring continues.

Working on the survey with beach litter pickers has stopped as not really feasible.


Warm Homes Action Group

  1. Leafletting continuing.

  2. Second home energy information stall at July Repair Cafe. Better prepared, more leaflets, better location, overall, more positive. Bid to FoE to enable someone to do NEA Energy Awareness Level 3 course successful. Will now take forward to membership and more widely. If someone identified, and they successfully complete the course, the intention would be to ask them to offer home energy advice, initially on a voluntary basis, but could be paid role in the future.

  3. Further discussion with Bernicia re Community Energy Fund. Meeting included Eric Coates who would write bid. Further meeting w/c 19 August. Bid round open - 19 August-13 October.

  4. Discussions with Rothbury CAN. Swapping ideas.


Zero Waste Hub Action Group

  1. Now regularly using a specific outcome form for each repair – helps with data collection and identification of types of repairers needed.

  2. The new repaircafe@greenerberwick.org.uk email is working and being used

  3. Tool Library – difficulty making progress.

    • Pepper is researching different approaches to running a tool library.

    • Have donations of tools waiting on suitable storage. Looking at East Linton – Fixing for a Future – online system MyTurn

    • Need to ask NCC for a time extension for use of grant funds.

    • Peter is prepared to do the online PAT testing course.

  4. Will have a discussion with the organising team: Sue, Joan, Pepper, Tansy, Tania, Liz (no leader) after the next Repair Café (31 Aug) to prepare Risk Assessment and discuss progressing on the Tool Library.

  5. Workshops

  • Jo will do a demonstration.

  • Bicycle Maintenance 21 September.

  • Run September Repair Café at Salvation Army workshop on the ramparts so that people can be making things.

  • Advanced Bicycle Maintenance – not yet planned
