Action Groups Update - February 2023
Our six Greener Berwick Action Groups continue to make progress:
The Tweed Estuary Pollution Action Group continue to monitor the algae for the Environment Agency, and have made suggestions for improvements to the storm water overflows following Freedom of Information Requests.
The Single Use Plastic Action Group now have 15 businesses signed up to eliminate 3 items of single use plastic, so Berwick is heading towards an award for this work.
The Transport and Active Travel Action Group has had a good response to the questionnaire (please take two minutes to complete the Transport Survey if you haven’t already) – the results are being used to discuss bus and cycle improvements with NCC.
The Zero Waste Hub Action Group organised an interesting visit to NCC main recycling depot at the end of January and follow up questions about improving the Berwick facility are being pursued. A repair workshop starter kit has been purchased and ongoing discussion with Town Council and others will hopefully see this come to fruition soon.
The Growing Communities Action Group has a meeting with NCC estates shortly to consider sites for a community garden, and once a site is settled folk can come out with their spades!
The Warm Homes Action Group will be preparing a leaflet on local energy efficiency grants shortly – it appears that the criteria will widen shortly so grants will be available to more people.
