The Growing Communities project is now in full swing!

So far this autumn we have joined up with Berwick Community Trust to help them tidy up their edible bed on Castlegate, and met twice more as a group of volunteer gardeners to first empty the small beds at Foul Ford of their old neglected shrubs and weeds, and then plant them both up with new plants.

The beds were designed by action group leader Jo Hart and they have a medicinal theme, with plenty of herbs and plants that you’d find in an apothecary garden, amongst more familiar culinary herbs, and edible flowers.

Greener Berwick - Growing Communities Action Group - planting plans

We also underplanted everything with some spring-flowering bulbs for colour and interest in a dormant part of the year. These plants will be filling out, growing and evolving from now on, and in the spring we will be sowing seeds as a group to fill in the gaps with even more diversity.

Thank you to our supporters!

We want to thank all of our sponsors and supporters so far! The beautiful Hawthorn tree was donated kindly by Berwick Garden Centre. And we had many supporters donating money for the rest of the plants and the project in general.

Huge thanks go to:

Volunteer with us

We couldn’t do it without our volunteers! If you’d like to join in gardening or planning the project please get in touch. We will be meeting again to make plant labels and plans, with cups of tea all round.
